Music therapy is an evidence-based discipline that uses music as the primary tool in achieving therapy goals within the following domains: communication, social, physical, cognition, emotional, and spiritual. It is delivered by board-certified music therapists and is not reserved for musicians-- nor does it require any prior musical experiences. Music behaves as a medium for processing emotions, trauma, and grief—but music can also be used as a regulating or calming agent for anxiety or for dysregulation, to develop positive coping mechanisms, and much more.

Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life.

Thiviyan is a Registered Social Worker and a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. After completing his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Waterloo, he went on to receive his Master of Social Work from Western University. Presently, he has been practicing as a mental health therapist for the past five years working with a wide variety of client populations at several different organizations.

Thiviyan is passionate about sharing his wealth of counselling knowledge with clients to equip them with the strategies and techniques needed to manage challenging situations. He prides himself on his ability to break down abstract therapeutic concepts and explain them in a relatable way, using clever examples, metaphors, and activities. Thiviyan is also an open-minded and empathetic practitioner who has tremendous patience with his clients. He understands the significance of using a collaborative approach, as he works alongside his clients to shape their own journey in therapy.
